Allow git and gpg binaries to be found on FreeBSD

Rather than just hardcoding /usr/bin/git and /usr/bin/gpg,
make the code look around for the binaries a little bit.
This allows the code to operate correctly on FreeBSD
(and probably other operating systems as well).
